Due to popular demand I have been challenged to shorten my posts. I will try...
Where are you going in life? What are you working, studying, struggling, stressing, perservering for? Often times we are so caught up in getting to our goal that we never really consider whether our goal will satisfy or last. We go to school to get a job. That is a common goal. But many people, once they've got a job, sit around and need to find another goal to strive for. It's the same thing with all other earthly goals, none of them, once they are achieved, give you lasting satisfaction. I am learning the hard lesson of not being consumed by goals right now. I had plans for my education and they made me feel safe and secure and in control. But the realistic truth is, plans always change and no matter how you try, you are not in complete control of what happens in your life.
So I'm learning to go to God with all these possibilities for my future and just lay them down before Him. I am learning to give all these hopes and fears and anxieties to God and just rest in the assurance that His sovereign grace desires my prosperity and not my failure.
I saw this quote and thought it note-worthy: "It is not a question of whether people have faith, it is a question of what they put their trust in."
What do you put your trust in? I don't think we really understand how much we have come to rely on certain things in our life...not until they are gone or they fail us. And when that happens...well that is when you learn how flawed and limited earthly people and objects are. I have been there, I've put my hope in friends, in future dreams, in myself, even in my loved ones. They all failed me.
But God... He has never failed me. Everytime I depended on someone/something other than Him, He watched, hurt by my choice but still waiting patiently. He waited until I got hurt, realized my mistake and came back to Him. Then, when I put my trust in Him again, He carried me through my days, gave me strength that I did not have and blessed me with peace and love. My God has saved me. He has given me salvation, He has picked me up out of my pits and He has saved my life!
Whom do you rely on to save you? Does your 'Saviour' have limitations?
"Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.
Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— the LORD, who remains faithful forever." --Psalm 146:3-6
Blessings!
