Whom are you running to?

Due to popular demand I have been challenged to shorten my posts. I will try...
Where are you going in life? What are you working, studying, struggling, stressing, perservering for? Often times we are so caught up in getting to our goal that we never really consider whether our goal will satisfy or last. We go to school to get a job. That is a common goal. But many people, once they've got a job, sit around and need to find another goal to strive for. It's the same thing with all other earthly goals, none of them, once they are achieved, give you lasting satisfaction. I am learning the hard lesson of not being consumed by goals right now. I had plans for my education and they made me feel safe and secure and in control. But the realistic truth is, plans always change and no matter how you try, you are not in complete control of what happens in your life.
So I'm learning to go to God with all these possibilities for my future and just lay them down before Him. I am learning to give all these hopes and fears and anxieties to God and just rest in the assurance that His sovereign grace desires my prosperity and not my failure.

I saw this quote and thought it note-worthy: "It is not a question of whether people have faith, it is a question of what they put their trust in."
What do you put your trust in? I don't think we really understand how much we have come to rely on certain things in our life...not until they are gone or they fail us. And when that happens...well that is when you learn how flawed and limited earthly people and objects are. I have been there, I've put my hope in friends, in future dreams, in myself, even in my loved ones. They all failed me.
But God... He has never failed me. Everytime I depended on someone/something other than Him, He watched, hurt by my choice but still waiting patiently. He waited until I got hurt, realized my mistake and came back to Him. Then, when I put my trust in Him again, He carried me through my days, gave me strength that I did not have and blessed me with peace and love. My God has saved me. He has given me salvation, He has picked me up out of my pits and He has saved my life!
Whom do you rely on to save you? Does your 'Saviour' have limitations?

"Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.
Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— the LORD, who remains faithful forever." --Psalm 146:3-6

Blessings!

With Eyes Wide Open

It's been years since I've returned but there seems to be something beautiful yet haunting that whispers to me from this place. I long to return. Recently I've been wondering what it is that draws me here. I wanted to pin it down and I will make an attempt here: From the moment I step foot onto this land there are heavy odours of garbage, smoke and sweat that assault my senses. Mixed with the heavy, humid air and the noises of car horns and peoples voices, the first few seconds are overwhelming. It is unmistakable, you are somewhere completely new. Riding through the streets in the night you can only make out shadows of buildings, cars, roads, trees. But even in the dark of night life is illuminated as you watch people twisting by one another on roads and pass by frail bodies scooting under empty spaces for a nights rest. The car speeds through the street and all the lights and people and voices become too much so you close your eyes. And you are struck by the pleasure ...

A Wedding!

Phil and Diani (forgive me if I spelt that wrong!) are getting married today!!! I am very excited for them and pray for their joy on this momentous day in their lives. As a (female) guest at a wedding I am doing what is expected of me. I have gone back in time and am excited like a little girl about dressing up and getting all the bells and whistles of my outfit together. As is the norm things are not working out as they should. I stayed up last night to do my nails, as I waited for them to dry I sent out a mass text to about 12 people and took great joy in watching them all reply back in utter confusion, (I am a girl of simple pleasures). I got up this morning and my nails are ruined, I fell asleep before they dryed completley. I have just finished my first attempt at straightening my hair and it has come out weird. My hair chooses the worst times to put up a fight with me! I have already ironed my sari and put all my jewellry out so instead of getting frustrated I have decided to tak...
